How much does an emergency locksmith cost in Harrow?

Locksmith prices vary a lot, and the cheapest-sounding quote isn’t always the cheapest bill. Here are our published guidance prices for 2026, what affects them, and how to make sure you know the total before anyone starts work.

By Harrow Locksmiths 247 · Updated

Typical prices

  • Lockout, simple non-destructive opening: £50-75
  • High-security lock opening: from £120
  • Standard lock replacement: £90-120
  • Lock change (labour): £50
  • uPVC door or window lock repair or opening: £69
  • Call-out charge: £45-120, depending on the time, day and urgency
  • Extra key: £17-50, depending on security level

These are guidance prices. Parts such as a new cylinder or mechanism are extra and depend on the security level you choose. The full list is on our prices page, and the same prices apply in every postcode district we cover.

What affects the price

  • The lock: a standard nightlatch is quicker to open than a high-security or anti-snap cylinder.
  • Whether the door was key-locked or just pulled shut. A uPVC door that is only closed is usually quicker.
  • Time of day: nights, weekends and holidays carry a higher call-out.
  • Whether parts are needed: a damaged or worn lock may need replacing rather than just opening.
  • Access: parking restrictions and controlled entry to blocks of flats can add time.

How to avoid hidden charges

Ask for the total price, or a clear range, before anyone sets off, including the call-out. A good locksmith explains what might change the price, for example finding a high-security lock on arrival, and asks before doing anything extra.

Be wary of very low headline prices from national call centres that are then multiplied at the door, and of anyone who wants to drill the lock immediately without trying non-destructive entry.

Can insurance pay for it?

Many home insurance policies include home emergency cover, which can pay for a locksmith after a lockout or break-in. Check your policy or call your insurer’s helpline. If the lock is being replaced after a burglary, your insurer may also require a British Standard (BS3621) lock or an anti-snap cylinder.

Common questions

Is there a call-out fee?

There can be, depending on the time and urgency (£45-120). It is included in the price agreed with you before anyone sets off, so there are no surprises.

Is it cheaper to replace the lock than to open it?

Usually not. Non-destructive opening is normally the cheapest option. Replacement makes sense if the lock is damaged, worn, low-security or the keys were stolen.

Is the price different in Wembley, Hayes or Gerrards Cross?

No. The published price guide applies across every postcode district we cover. The exact quote depends on the lock, the time and any parts, not the area.
